– Founded by football star Robert Smith, Fan Health Network complements employee wellness programs, in turn helping to reduce employers’ healthcare costs –
WASHINGTON (September 27, 2018) – The NFL Players Association (NFLPA) and its OneTeam Collective athlete-driven accelerator today announced a strategic investment and partnership with Fan Health Network (FHN). Through the partnership, FHN has an exclusive NFLPA license for its web and mobile based application that uses current NFL players to facilitate engagement and participation in corporate wellness challenges. Founded by former college and professional football star Robert Smith, the social app connects users directly to professional athletes and other sports stars to inspire healthier lifestyles.
“In 2012, I had a vision to connect professional athletes and sports celebrities to their fans, through an app that allows for the sharing of healthy lifestyle behaviors and interactions to improve the overall fitness of the Fan Health Network participants,” said Smith, FHN Founder and CEO. “While our Captain’s Network includes athletes and sports celebrities spanning many different sports, our partnership with the NFLPA provides us with instant access to over 2,000 professional football players, that also bring strong ties back to their respective universities, further enhancing our appeal to sports fans.”
Among the app’s features, users have the ability to interact with sports stars in a whole new way. Through the NFLPA partnership, select active players will be integrated across FHN, adding unique levels of competition and connections with fans. Participants can select Captains from an extensive network including professional football players and other world-class athletes like Robert Smith, current Minnesota Vikings player Jayln Holmes, Eddie George, Troy Smith, Katie Smith, Jimmy Jackson, Jessica Beard and Billy Horschel along with sportscasters Shannon Spake and John Buccigross. The Captain’s Network will provide tips, dietary advice, workouts and motivation to pursue healthy lifestyles like the professionals. An element of rivalry and added motivation is also at play with Captains competing against one another, urging their participants to achieve goals to help them win contests against their peers.
Available through the App Store and Google Play, FHN was created for fitness enthusiasts and sports fans, as well as companies that recognize the benefits of employee wellness. As a unique engagement and challenge engine, FHN can be combined with and complement existing health management and wellness programs. Participants can compete in a variety of fitness challenges against friends, family and co-workers to win awards and prizes, as well as receive unique challenges from the Captains.
“When I met Robert, we both realized that we shared a passion for sports and health and wellness, we then developed a plan to leverage my experience and knowledge in creating and running corporate health and wellness programs, to bring Robert’s vision alive by re-launching Fan Health Network as a business to business solution, in addition to our business to consumer offering,” said Andy Corbin, FHN President.
Leveraging its network of sports influencers, and the power of social competition, FHN is focused on increasing employer wellness program engagement, completion rates and ongoing participation by tapping into fans’ passion and friendly peer pressure. Utilizing fitness trackers, dashboard technology and social media channels, participants become a part of the sports fan community by tracking and sharing their progress and personal journeys. They receive support from other members, leverage resources created by fans and professionals alike, and receive personalized messages from Captains and team leaders.
“Athletes are the best natural ambassadors for promoting healthy lifestyle choices, and our players’ involvement with Fan Health Network can tremendously impact the wellness of many different groups of people including company workforces,” said Ahmad Nassar, President of NFL Players Inc. and Board Chairman of the OneTeam Collective. “To have world-class athletes join together and devote their efforts to inspiring people to be fit and healthy is central to our mission of transforming fan experiences.”
